The installation of a bark boiler at our Richards Bay mill was Mondi’s first Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project. Developing and applying an efficient and effective methodology that meets the needs of the site and the requirements of the Department of Minerals and Energy took nearly three years. With the bark boiler already cutting the mill’s total CO2 emissions from fossil fuels by 51% since 2004 levels, we have now commissioned a gas turbine at the mill.
