Economic contribution

As a corporate tax payer, major employer, investor and purchaser of goods and services, we make a significant contribution to the economies in which we operate. Our products also bring benefits to customers and consumers around the world.

Payments to suppliers

We paid €3,861 million to suppliers in 2009, compared to €4,703 million in 2008.

Employees

The total value distributed to employees, including base wages and other relate costs, was €838 million in 2009, compared to €926 million in 2008.

Capital expenditure

Our total capital expenditure in 2009 was €517 million, compared to €693 million in 2008.

Tax and other payments to government

In 2009, we paid €190 million in taxes and related payments in host countries, including company taxes, employee taxes, royalties, import and export duties, transfer duties and sales taxes.
