HP Indigo

The HP Indigo printing technology is one of the fastest growing digital printing technologies in the market offering an offset like print quality based on an electro-photographic (laser) printing process. Its characteristic and unique ElectroInk demands a specially treated paper surface.

What is ElectroInk? The HP Indigo press uses HP’s unique liquid ink called “ElectroInk”. The Indigo pigmented particles swim in a carrier liquid, hence much smaller particles (nano size) are possible than in dry toner printing. This means that a higher resolution and sharper printouts resembling lithography can be achieved. Furthermore, the actual paper feel remains intact, even when covered with Indigo ElectroInk. Thus, the paper is heavily contributing to the overall appearance of the printout.

Why do you need an HP Indigo certified paper?

HP recommends that only certified papers such as Color Copy indigo or DNS® indigo are run on the HP Indigo press range. Non-approved papers run the risk of causing paper-jams, reducing the blanket life of the press, and can lead to quality problems such as reduced ink adhesion and rub resistance. This in turn can lead to a commercially unacceptable standard of work. Brighter paper gives you sharper, more natural looking images. Because uncoated papers can be made brighter than coated ones, they produce more vibrant, high contrast, colours and crisper details in photos.

What is Mondi’s Indigo range?

Mondi has worked closely with HP and developed two uncoated indigo papers

Color Copy indigo Color Copy indigo (3 star rating (best performing)), the extra smooth paper for full colour printing. Color Copy is ideal for marketing communication, invitations, photo books, brochures etc.

DNS® indigo DNS® indigo (fully certified by HP Indigo), the high-white paper with the natural touch. DNS® indigo is perfect for books, promotional material, catalogues, TransPromo etc.

NAUTILUS® SuperWhite NAUTILUS® SuperWhite is HP Indigo SPP certified, 100% recycled paper, ideally suited for light colour and monochrome printing. NAUTILUS® SuperWhite is perfect for books, company reports, transactional material, etc.

NAUTILUS® Universal NAUTILUS® Universal is HP Indigo SPP certified, 100 % recycled natural paper, designed for black & white printing. NAUTILUS® Universal is ideal for books, business cards, company reports, standard invoices, statements etc.

What are the benefits of using uncoated paper grades?

The benefits of using uncoated papers on HP Indigo digital presses are manifold:

Higher Whiteness	The higher whiteness level that can be achieved with uncoated paper allows for more colour contrast when printing.
