Mondi is a leading global packaging and paper group, contributing to a better world by making innovative solutions that are sustainable by design.
We operate across the value chain. From managing forests and producing pulp, paper and films, to developing and manufacturing effective industrial and consumer packaging solutions - we employ around 22,000 people across 30 countries.
We work with leading global and local brands to create innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions using paper where possible, plastic when useful.
We aim to contribute to a better world and sustainability is intrinsic to how we do business. With our customer-centric approach, EcoSolutions, we ask our customers the right questions to find the most sustainable solutions for them.
If you would like to know more about who we are and our strategy, see About Mondi.

Even recycled papers need some fresh fibre to function – both recycled and fresh fibre feed into the paper cycle.
Recycled fibre degrades after several uses. Fresh fibre is needed to maintain paper strength and quality. Mondi always strives for the ideal balance between fresh and recycled fibre for our papers.
We only source sustainable fibre. By making paper with fibre from sustainably managed forests, we sustain the paper cycle for the long term.
We recycle over one million tonnes of paper in our processes every year – that’s equivalent in weight to over 3,000 Boeing 747s.

At Mondi we understand how important consistent good Quality is and we are passionate about getting things right the first time. We want to meet our customers’ expectations every time, and show how much care we take in everything we do.
Our Quality experts work closely together with colleagues across the Mondi network to establish common standards and provide effective support where needed. This means we continuously improve our standards, can react quickly to get back on track, and our operations benefit from reduced complexity, good practice solutions, and access to a peer network for collective problem solving.
In addition to strategic quality management, our Quality experts work to:
ensure a structured approach to root cause analysis for any type of quality issue
assist operations in identifying, eliminating and mitigating process-related risks and solving issues that (might) impact quality
identify opportunities for improvement through assessments, partner audits and pre-audits
support targeted improvement of skills, processes and tools at all levels of the organisation
embed quality awareness, with the right mindset and behaviours across the entire organisation, through rules and training
For us, Quality matters – every time, everywhere

The Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030) sets out the actions we will take over the next decade to meet our ambitious sustainability commitments and targets by 2030.
We believe that by focusing on circular driven solutions, created by empowered people, taking action on climate we will have the most positive impact. Responsible business practices underpin these three action areas and support our wider sustainability work. Visit our MAP2030 page to learn about our commitments in detail, or watch the MAP2030 video.
Our Growing Responsibly model guided our sustainable development work from 2016 to 2020. Its 10 action areas were supported by public commitments running until the end of 2020, along with an updated carbon emission commitment that runs to 2050.
Sustainable by design reflects our purpose and how we contribute to a better world by making innovative, sustainable packaging and paper.
Sustainabiliy is at the heart of our strategy. It is the thread that runs through all our decision-making and lies at the heart of our industry-leading integrated business model.
We are committed to manufacturing excellence, so that we operate sustainably across the value chain and run our operations safely and efficiently.
We try to put ourselves in our customers' shoes at every step. Our EcoSolutions approach helps customers find the right sustainable solutions to meet their sustainability goals – from strong, lightweight paper bags to fully recyclable flexible plastic pouches and much more.
Through our EcoSolutions approach we help our customers find the best sustainable packaging solution for their products and the planet.
REPLACE - We replace less sustainable packaging, following our principle of paper where possible, plastic when useful.
REDUCE - We use less raw material through sustainable design, operational efficiency, and the right material choices.
RECYCLE - We develop fit-for-purpose solutions that are designed for recycling.

Flexible plastic packaging provides some unique benefits that are difficult to replicate.
A third of the world’s food is currently wasted. Flexible plastic packaging can help reduce food waste as it protects food during transportation and stocking and reduces moisture loss, extending the shelf life of many foods significantly.
Flexible plastic packaging is also resource efficient. This means it often takes less natural resources, water and energy to manufacture and transport compared to other packaging materials such as glass, steel or rigid plastic packaging.

Packaging is often essential to avoid waste. Collaboration across the value chain is key to making sure packaging doesn’t become waste.
To ensure that packaging becomes part of a circular economy it needs to be designed to be fully reusable, recyclable or compostable.
Less is more. Flexible plastic often uses less material. For example, our award winning StripPouch uses 70% less material than rigid plastic bottles of the same volume.
We rely on our partner power. We’re working with customers, recyclers and partners, such as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and CEFLEX, to design packaging that doesn’t become waste. Mondi was one of the first signatories of The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment in 2018. Mondi’s commitments are:
100% of our products are reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025
25% of plastic to be recycled content by 2025
Mondi has pledged to increase investment in research and development, and drive deeper collaboration throughout our supply chain to move away from non-renewable and non-recyclable plastic. We use our expertise in paper-based and flexible plastic packaging to enhance product design, with the aim of achieving 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable plastic packaging by 2025.
Through the Global Commitment, Mondi is boosting the use of recycled content in our products to ensure a minimum of 25% of post-consumer waste is incorporated across all our plastic packaging by 2025, where health and safety legislation allow.
We actively manage our forests to protect ecosystems and biodiversity.
We believe that the best solutions are in nature. Sustainable management is our top priority, as biodiversity is essential for securing the productivity and resilience of forests.
We manage +2 million hectares of forestry lands in Russia and South Africa. Almost 25% of our forestry lands are set aside for conservation and protection of ecosystems.
We protect against deforestation through sustainable forestry management and responsible sourcing.
We are committed to responsible sourcing.
100% of our wood is responsibly sourced, with 90% sourced locally from the countries where our mills are located.
100% of our paper mills and forestry operations are chain-of-custody certified.
Through the working forests model, we protect forests and let them grow. By giving forests a value, we protect and enhance them.
Well-managed plantations reduce pressure on natural forests as they provide a higher yield to meet rising demand for fibre-based products.
Plantations make up only 7% of the world’s forests, while meeting nearly half of the global demand for commercial timber.
100% of Mondi’s forest plantations in South Africa are FSC™ certified, ensuring responsible forestry practices.
We promote sustainable, resilient landscapes with well-designed ecological networks, and a quarter of our lands are managed for conservation.

Working at Mondi can be more than just a job. We offer inspiring careers with room to grow, in a company that has sustainability as its purpose.
We aim to provide a great workplace for all our colleagues. Safety and health, diversity and inclusion, and continuous learning are core parts of our culture. Our colleagues do more than 30 hours of training per year, on average.
We believe we are fit for the future. Our strategy is to be sustainable by design. We always strive to improve for our customers, communities and ourselves. We are developing a diverse workforce – inspired by purpose, supported by caring colleagues, and empowered with knowledge and tools for a safe, agile and positive working environment.
Throughout the pandemic, our top priority has been to safeguard the safety and health of our employees, contractors, and the communities in which we operate. We have continued to operate throughout the pandemic as we make products that are essential to everyday life, including materials for personal hygiene products and packaging for food, consumer goods, and online deliveries. We also have a responsibility to those communities where our mills contribute to providing essential services such as energy, heat, and waste water treatment.
We continue to closely monitor developments, assessing risks, providing guidance, and implementing preventative policies in line with local government regulations and recommendations in the areas in which we operate.
In response to the pandemic we adjusted one of the production lines at our Gronau plant in Germany to produce surgical face masks and melt-blown nonwovens, an essential component to make masks.
We also played our part in contributing to local community initiatives during this very challenging period. Initiatives included donating face masks to different institutions and countries like South Africa and Germany, supporting local projects, and offering our facilities to health care workers for respite.
Recognising and supporting diversity is key to our company culture and our success.
We know that diverse, talented and skillful people are key to our success and sustainability. This is why we strive to create an exciting and inclusive environment, where colleagues know it is safe to speak their mind, and where we can inspire each other and grow, together.
Respect for and appreciation of diversity and inclusion (D&I) is embedded at every step – from our approach to attracting and developing talent so each colleague can grow to their full potential, to encouraging colleagues to share their expertise and shine as individuals and ambassadors of Mondi.
We set Group-wide targets for D&I and measure our progress against them. Our cross-business D&I taskforce continually works to develop awareness, provide trainings and drive important initiatives such as our professional women’s network, reverse mentoring, and the myAbility programme.
