Applied Science Technologist
What’s your job at Mondi and where do you work?
I am an Applied Science Technologist employed at the Group office in Vienna and located in both, in Vienna as well as in one of our Fine Paper mills in Hausmening.
What did you study or do before you joined Mondi?
From 2002 until 2007, I studied ‘Wood technology and Management’ at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. I also took lectures at the Vienna University of Technology, as well as at West Virginia University in the US. In 2009, I started my PhD in Chemical Engineering at the Graz University of Technology on a part-time basis while working at Mondi Frantschach at the same time. Eventually, in December 2015 I finished my PhD thesis related to high- and low consistency refining of pulp. My efforts in this period were rewarded when I won the Young Researchers prize of the German association Zellcheming, which I am very proud of.
When did you start working for Mondi?
I joined the company in October 2007, so I have been here for more than 11 years now!
Did you have a different role at Mondi earlier in your career?
Yes, I did: From 2007 until 2016, I had the role of a Project Manager dedicated towards optimising and implementing new processes and products within the Packaging Paper business.
What do you like most about working at Mondi?
My favourite thing about working for Mondi is the freedom to come up with new concepts, which allows us to improve our efficiency and product portfolio. I think that Mondi’s mindset is different to many other companies. Here, employees are encouraged and driven to come up with their own ideas about how to improve our performance, create value and help the company grow.
What are your colleagues like?
My colleagues here at Mondi are fantastic. The team complements each other well and they are all very hard working people. In particular, I would say that they are target oriented and pragmatic, which makes working together with them very easy and ensures that we achieve all our goals.
What’s your secret talent?
Well, it wouldn’t be a secret anymore if I told it, but at least a fact, which not everybody knows is that I love the details of the nature and capturing them in pictures and memories is one of my favourite things to do in my free time.
What’s your dream job?
I must say that I am very happy in my current job, but I have always been fascinated by airplanes, so if I decided to completely change my career path, I would be very interested in manufacturing air planes.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I really like nature and outdoor activities like sailing, riding my bike and hiking, but I also like to appreciate art & culture in my free time.
What matters most to you?
The most important thing in my life is my family and their health and happiness.
What is the value you bring to Mondi or our customers through your work?
I think the value that I bring to the company and our customers is that they know that I am “obsessed” with the quality of paper. Therefore my colleagues and customers can be sure that I always do my very best to ensure that the quality of our product is as high as possible and all processes are optimised.
