Vienna, 26 November 2018 – No longer just a trend, sustainability is now a fixed criterion in the packaging choices of Mondi’s customers, according to insights from four major packaging trade fairs held this year. A second key topic for consumer goods and industrial companies attending the fairs was digitalisation, which affects business logistics and the packaging they require. Mondi’s focus on sustainable solutions and innovative packaging for e-commerce are just two examples of how the global packaging and paper Group is addressing this demand.
With an important presence at four recent industry fairs (RosUpack in Russia, FachPack in Germany, Pack Expo International in the USA and Scanpack in Sweden), Mondi not only presented its wide range of packaging solutions, it also tapped into the current interests and needs of customers from major markets and industries.
Strong interest in sustainable packaging
Mondi’s team at FachPack reported that sustainability seemed to come up in nine out of ten discussions this year. A strong uptick in its importance was noted at the fairs in Russia and the USA, where the focus on sustainability had previously lagged that of Western Europe. Mondi believes its packaging solutions are part of the solution to global challenges.
Several of Mondi’s sustainable solutions were real stars of the fairs. BarrierPack Recyclable, a recyclable plastic laminate for premade consumer goods pouches, received two prestigious industry awards at FachPack: a German Packaging Award in the ‘sustainability’ category, and a Green Packaging Star Award® in the ‘save food’ category.
Mondi’s innovation and application engineering teams drive and design the best packaging solutions for customer needs – demonstrated by two innovation awards for Mondi in the ‘transport packaging’ category from the German Corrugated Board Industry Association (VDW). They were awarded at FachPack for Mondi’s innovative solutions to customer logistics challenges. The first is a shelf-ready packaging solution for the retail food industry featuring a novel ‘(un)-lock’ system, and the second is a padded corrugated packaging solution designed to securely ship automobile headlights.
