Mondi helps Büromodel to cut operational packing costs by 20%

Facing operational inefficiencies and safety concerns with wooden packaging, the company sought a more effective and reliable solution. Mondi worked closely with Büromodel to develop a tailored corrugated packaging concept aligned with its operational needs.

The challenge: replacing inefficient and high-risk wooden packaging 

Distributing across key export markets, Büromodel’s in-house wood-based crate production process began to create operational and logistical challenges. These included increased health and safety risks during handling and transportation, as well as inefficiencies in production and packing processes. In addition, wooden packaging was becoming less suitable for certain markets, such as Germany and the UK.  

During sea freight, the company also experienced mould issues, affecting product quality and reliability. Büromodel therefore needed a solution that could improve efficiency, ensure consistent product protection and meet evolving market expectations, while supporting reliable delivery across its supply chain. 

The solution: a tailored corrugated packaging solution designed for operational fit 

To address these challenges, corrugated packaging emerged as a suitable alternative to traditional wood-based solutions. Mondi worked closely with Büromodel to design and implement a bespoke corrugated packaging solution tailored to the specific requirements of shipping acoustic office cabins. 

The new packaging solutions offers strong product protection while eliminating the mould issues associated with wooden crates during sea freight. It is also easier and faster to assemble, reducing labour intensity and streamlining packing operations. Importantly, the solution integrates seamlessly into Büromodel’s existing production and logistics processes, requiring no additional capital investment. 

Sinan Müsellim, Procurement Manager at Büromodel, emphasised the value of the collaboration: “Moving away from wooden packaging was a strategic decision for us. Mondi’s team understood our operational requirements and worked with us to find a solution we could trust across different markets. That confidence in the packaging is just as important as the efficiency gains.”
