Role Summary:

The Chief Inspector provides technical leadership and regulatory compliance oversight for the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (PEIMS). The role ensures boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping, tanks, and pressure relief devices are designed, installed, inspected, repaired, altered, and maintained in accordance with applicable legislation, engineering codes, standards, and corporate procedures. 

The Chief Inspector acts as the designated technical authority for pressure equipment integrity and ensures fixed pressure equipment assets remain safe for continued operation throughout their lifecycle. The role supports engineering, maintenance, and operations teams while supervising inspection personnel and ensuring regulatory documentation and reporting requirements are met.

Your Mission:

  • Maintain governance and oversight of the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (PEIMS).
  • Serve as the designated Chief Inspector responsible for pressure equipment systems including boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping, tanks, and pressure relief devices.
  • Develop and maintain inspection programs including risk‑based inspection strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance and interpretation of engineering codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Review engineering design submissions and equipment modifications for compliance.
  • Oversee non‑destructive examination (NDE) activities and ensure inspections are properly coordinated.
  • Coordinate inspection scopes for shutdowns and turnarounds.
  • Review inspection findings and determine corrective actions required to maintain equipment integrity.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and technical support to inspection personnel and other departments.
  • Lead or participate in investigations of pressure equipment incidents.
  • Maintain pressure equipment inspection records and regulatory documentation.
  • Support development of engineering design standards and pressure equipment material specifications.
  • Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, operations, procurement, and contractors regarding pressure equipment integrity.

Your Profile:

  • In‑Service Pressure Equipment Inspector Certificate of Competency
  • Minimum 5 years experience as an in‑service pressure equipment inspector, preferred in pulp and paper or petrochemical processing facility
  • Strong understanding of Alberta pressure equipment legislation and ABSA requirements
  • Working knowledge of ABSA AB‑500 series documentation, IB‑18‑004, ASME Section I, II, IV, V, VIII Division 1, IX, B31.1, B31.3, and PCC‑2
  • Experience coordinating inspection programs and NDE activities
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and decision‑making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The successful candidate will maintain professional competencies and certification through continued training.
