From Risk to Resilience: How Mondi Is Redefining Fire Safety in Forestry

- Wildfires are a growing threat to forestry worldwide, and the 2024 season underlined this reality. South Africa endured one of its most severe fire seasons on record, with 2,750 firefighting teams deployed, 34 lives lost, and thousands of livestock destroyed.
- Recognising that wildfires remain an inherent and potentially fatal risk within Mondi Forestry Operations, the organisation leveraged its established control measures to mitigate losses during 2024. Furthermore, the Mondi leadership team adopted a proactive, multidisciplinary approach to strengthen fire protection strategies for 2025, supporting continuous improvement and resilience.
