Make the switch to paper pallet wrapping
‘Paperisation’ is gaining traction across various packaging types. Did you know that you can replace plastic also in secondary and tertiary packaging with the right paper?

Speciality Kraft Paper
Pallets vary significantly, from weight to height to shape and product protection has priority. Not just any kraft paper can be used for this, special mechanical properties are required:
- Tensile Strength: provides puncture and breakage resistance
- Stretch: crucial for transportation when dynamic forces are applied, it provides the "cushioning" for the wrap and prevents the paper from breaking
- Both of these parameters combine in the TEA (tensile energy absorption) value, which is the ultimate parameter for pallet wrapping

Ad/Vantage StretchWrap
Mondi’s Ad/Vantage StretchWrap is a 100% kraft paper that is made from fresh Nordic fibres. It contains no plastic or coating and delivers an outstanding 11% stretch, excellent strength and tensile energy absorption even in the low grammage of 70g/m2, which makes it the ideal paper for pallet wrapping. Investment in dedicated machinery
As wrapping pallets in paper is a completely different process and fundamentally changes how the market operates, it requires a different approach overall and collaboration across the value chain. Machinery producers have increasingly extended their offering to paper pallet wrapping such as PaperWrap, Robopac, Tosa Group or Acmi.
FAQs: Sustainability & Recycling
Is Ad/Vantage StretchWrap fully recyclable?
Yes, Ad/Vantage StretchWrap is fully recyclable in a recycling mill with a conventional process (according to CEPI 4EG recyclability evaluation protocol, part 1). Because of its quality, it is a highly valued material to be used as PfR (paper for recycling) by paper mills.
Is there proof that Ad/Vantage StretchWrap has a reduced impact on climate change compared to plastic film?
According to an independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Ad/Vantage StretchWrap has 62% lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when compared to virgin plastic stretch film, and 49% lower GHG emissions when compared to plastic stretch film made with 50% recycled content.
FAQs: Strength & Performance
Does Ad/Vantage StretchWrap provide more stability to the pallet than plastic film?
Yes, pallet wrapping with Ad/Vantage StretchWrap provides even higher stability based on acceleration bench and tilting tests. Ad/Vantage StretchWrap significantly reduces vertical deformation, ensuring better stability during transport.
See here an example of an acceleration bench test.
Is Ad/Vantage StretchWrap stretchable?
Ad/Vantage StretchWrap has 11% stretch, which in the papermaking industry, is considered as a highly-extensible paper. This parameter is crucial in transportation when dynamic forces are applied to the pallet and prevents the paper from breaking.
Does humidity affect Ad/Vantage StretchWrap?
When humidity rises to high levels, the paper absorbs the moisture from the air and expands, hence the tension of the wrapping is influenced. We have tested Ad/Vantage StretchWrap in a climate chamber at 85% humidity, which shows that although the tension is affected, the wrapping remains intact. Long-haul container shipment tests show very good results.
While paper can absorb moisture and withstand rain for loading/unloading, it is only suitable for inside storage. On the other hand, since paper is breathable, it can improve efficiency as goods that usually need to dry before being wrapped in foil, can be directly wrapped with paper and moved to storage/transport as moisture evaporates through the packaging.
Can Ad/Vantage StretchWrap be in direct contact with food?
Yes. Ad/Vantage StretchWrap has been approved by BfR, FDA, CONEG and is ISEGA certified for direct food contact.
FAQs: Machines & Wrapping Process
Can I use Ad/Vantage StretchWrap on my plastic wrapping machine?
The wrapping process with paper is fundamentally different from wrapping with plastic film. Paper is not pre-stretched and has different mechanical properties to plastic film. Using paper on a plastic film wrapping machine would result in insufficient wrapping quality and would be limited to only very regular pallet profiles. We highly recommend using a dedicated paper wrapping machine.
Can Ad/Vantage StretchWrap be used for hand wrapping?
Manual wrapping does not allow for proper force, tension or folding, which reduces wrapping quality. Additionally, the paper needs to be adjusted to the pallet and glued at the end, making the process inefficient.
Are paper wrapping machines already in use?
Yes. Customers across Europe have installed paper wrapping machines which serve as proof of concept in various industries. We also have machines available in distributors and producers’ showrooms for demonstration.
FAQs: Testing & Cost Considerations
Is Ad/Vantage StretchWrap more expensive than plastic film?
The cost depends on the size and weight of the pallet, each case is analysed individually, it depends on the substitution ratio of paper against plastic film as well as material savings on labels, strapping or corner protection. We support you in compiling your business case.
Does switching to Ad/Vantage StretchWrap require a CapEx investment?
There are flexible financing options offered by machine producers and distributors, including service-based models, to help businesses transition smoothly.
Can I test the paper wrapping solution with my pallets?
Yes, you can send your pallets for testing. You will receive a detailed report comparing plastic vs. paper consumption, along with photos, videos and stability test results. Of course, you are also welcome to attend the test in person.
