Since its founding in 2016, KRUU, a rapidly growing photo booth rental company, has been dedicated to delivering memorable experiences for weddings and events. With over 150,000 satisfied customers and an almost 5-star satisfaction rating, KRUU’s hassle-free service has earned a reputation for ease of use and convenience. But as their business expanded, KRUU faced a packaging challenge – how to securely ship their valuable photo booths to customers and back, while preserving the thrill of that unboxing moment for each special occasion and ensuring a smooth experience every time. That’s when they turned to Mondi for an innovative solution.

Custom-made solutions: Mondi’s tailored approach

Initially, KRUU relied on standard cardboard boxes for shipping their photo booths to customers. However, as their customer base grew, so did the logistical challenges. The high value of the photo booths and the need for reliable return shipping revealed a significant problem – the standard boxes simply weren’t strong enough to protect the equipment during transit. With some photo booths weighing up to 21kg, the boxes had to be sturdy enough to withstand repeated use, yet easy enough to handle for customers with limited technical experience. Additionally, KRUU wanted to optimise the box size to reduce shipping costs and avoid wasted space.

Mondi stepped in to design a custom packaging solution that exceeded expectations. The result? A durable transport box with a specialised inlay to protect the photo booth from damage in transit, enhancing ease of use and ensuring a customer-friendly setup in less than five minutes. Customers are able to set up the photo booth comfortably and efficiently – no need for prolonged crouching or awkward positioning – ensuring the setup at weddings and events feels as seamless as possible.

Sustainability meets customer experience

According to Mondi’s sixth annual eCommerce trend report, 95% of customers value protective packaging, while more than half (59%) report that a poor unboxing experience would deter them from purchasing again. Mondi’s solution not only provides robust protection but also ensures an easy, enjoyable unboxing process, contributing to KRUU’s excellent customer ratings.

For KRUU, the collaboration with Mondi has been a game-changer. "The packaging plays an essential role in our customer experience," said Niklas Schlotter, Director of Operations at KRUU. "It’s the first haptic interaction customers have with our product, and so it must be easy to handle, protect the photo booth, and withstand return shipping.
