Pacapime Hungary and Mondi’s containerboard are keeping fruit and vegetables fresh and protected with high-quality packaging

When you can’t walk through a supermarket without marvelling at the packaging, it’s usually a sign that you work in the industry.
Lynn and Tom Pissens know the feeling well: Spotting packaging produced by their own team brings a sense of pride and highlights the responsibility corrugated packaging carries in protecting goods and reducing waste every day.
At Pacapime Hungary, this responsibility is deeply understood. It is shaped by family values and strengthened through long-term partnerships across the packaging value chain.
A legacy rooted in paper with a bright future ahead
Pacapime’s roots as a family business date back more than a century. The Hungarian site in Mórahalom was established in 2009 as a greenfield project, combining decades of corrugated know-how with a modern, lean and efficient operation.
Since 2024, Pacapime Hungary has been led by Lynn and Tom Pissens, representing the fourth generation of the family in the industry. “Bringing fresh perspectives and new energy is key,” they explain, “while it’s just as important to deeply respect the knowledge and dedication of the generations before us.”
Growing up around corrugated packaging, the siblings were familiar with the shopfloor from an early age—from visits to the production site, to conversations about the business around the kitchen table. Today, their roles as managing directors are complementary, spanning purchasing, sales and strategy, united by a shared belief that packaging is ultimately about people.
Customer focus in practice
Pacapime Hungary’s 42,000 m² production site manufactures up to 180 million m² of corrugated packaging annually, supplying customers across Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Serbia and Western Europe.
“Our guiding principle is customer first—not production first,” Tom explains. “That requires daily decisions that genuinely put customer needs at the centre.”
Flexibility and fast decision-making plays a crucial role, particularly during peak agricultural seasons. Empowered on-site teams enable Pacapime Hungary to respond quickly, build trust and deliver when it matters most—supported by reliable partners who share the same long-term outlook.

ProVantage SmartKraft Brown
Paper quality that keeps fresh produce protected
Fresh fruit and vegetable packaging lies at the heart of Pacapime Hungary’s expertise. With strong roots in agricultural applications, the company produces trays and boxes for apples, pears, tomatoes and bell peppers—end uses where packaging performance directly affects food quality and the prevention of waste. These packaging solutions feature durable constructions and effective ventilation, protecting produce throughout transport while ensuring attractive presentation at retail.
In this environment, paper choice is critical. Supply chain requirements, varying climate conditions and humidity place complex demands on containerboard performance. Mondi’s ProVantage SmartKraft Brown helps Pacapime Hungary meet these challenges while delivering clear benefits for customers: its 100% fresh fibre top ply ensures high surface integrity, excellent strength provides reliable burst and tear resistance, and consistent runnability and processing properties allow efficient production and enable box performance.
“High-quality kraftliners are important in fresh produce,” Tom explains. “The paper must support box performance, and consistency is essential, because our customers rely on us to deliver quality packaging every time.”
The value of a long-term partnership
When asked to sum up the collaboration with Mondi's containerboard team in one word, Lynn and Tom choose partnership. That partnership has proven its value over time and in different situations.
“Business is about people,” Lynn says, “and you can tell when someone genuinely cares.”
On-site technical support is one such cornerstone of the collaboration. Whether analysing root causes or training production teams, the focus is always on joint problem-solving and sharing best practices.
For Pacapime Hungary, long-term partnerships such as the one with Mondi provide the stability needed to deliver consistent quality to their own customers.
Driving innovation with a long-term view
Encouraging customers to question conventional box designs or long-standing paper combinations is often a gradual process. “The mindset of ‘don’t fix what isn’t broken’ can have its place,” Tom notes, “but it can also slow down innovation.”
Through trials, data-driven discussions and close collaboration, Pacapime Hungary works with customers to identify fit-for-purpose packaging solutions. “Product development is often a multi-year journey,” Tom adds. “Which is why trust and long-term partnerships are so important.”
Looking ahead together
Sustainability forms part of Pacapime Hungary’s strategy. Investments in water treatment systems, solar panels and transparent certification help ensure the business remains ahead as customer and consumer expectations evolve.
For Lynn and Tom, the future of Pacapime Hungary is about steady growth, portfolio diversification and strong partnerships across the value chain.
“The packaging industry is about people,” the siblings conclude. “Together with our colleagues, customers and suppliers, we want to create reliable solutions and value for generations to come.”
