Circular Driven Solutions
We are committed to innovative packaging and paper solutions that keep materials in circulation and avoid waste.
Creating sustainable packaging and paper
Consumer demand for sustainable products remains strong. As a key part of Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030) we are committed to make 100% of our packaging and paper portfolio reusable, recyclable or compostable (based on revenue), and in 2025 we achieved 88%, up from 74% in 2020.
We focus on advancing innovative packaging and paper solutions that support material circularity and waste reduction to meet customer needs and we are engaging with customers and partners to drive progress at scale.
This means we consider the environmental impacts of our products at each stage of the value chain, from the sourcing of raw materials, to material efficiency, product design and safety and a sustainable end-of-life.

Our product-related commitments, targets and performance
Make our packaging and paper solutions reusable, recyclable or compostable
Targets
100% of our packaging and paper products are reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025
2025 performance
Based on revenue in 2025, 88% of our portfolio of packaging and paper solutions were reusable, recyclable or compostable (87% in 2024).
Our focus continues to be on our Flexible Packaging products, as 100% of the portfolios from our Corrugated Packaging business are already recyclable or compostable. By the end of 2025, we had a sustainable alternative in place, or identified and in development, for 98% of our Flexible Packaging products. Having circular alternatives available for our Flexible Packaging portfolio is a key enabler for the transition to circular solutions.
In 2025, we assessed the impact of 1,250 products using our in-house life cycle-based tools.
Avoid waste by keeping materials in circulation
Targets
Eliminate waste to landfill from our manufacturing processes
2025 performance
We continued to make good progress in eliminating waste to landfill and repurposing waste that cannot yet be avoided.
In 2025, specific waste to landfill decreased by 63% compared with our baseline, and decreased by 31% since last year, mainly due to improvements in Richards Bay (South Africa) and Ružomberok (Slovakia).
Work with others to eliminate unsustainable packaging
Targets
Progress made through our partnerships and stakeholder engagement activities every year
2025 performance
We continued to collaborate in various cross-industry organisations to drive progress at scale.
We continued to collaborate with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in 2025; we provided our packaging expertise and R&D infrastructure, aiming to find more sustainable alternatives to existing packaging materials and support WFP to optimise material use and enhance packaging quality.
This year we collaborated with ‘traceless’ and focused on developing an innovative, fossil-free functional barrier paper through the use of a bio-based coating. ‘traceless’ materials are fossil-free and based on natural polymers extracted from agricultural residues using a patented process. In 2025, we have made strong progress in processability, running it at scale on our machines.
Our work with industry associations and value chain partners focused primarily on design for recycling standards for paper and flexible plastic packaging being developed under the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). We also continued working closely with 4evergreen and CEFLEX on further developing fibre-based and plastic design guidelines.
Sustainable by Design - product innovations 2025
9 WorldStar Packaging Awards 2026
Mondi’s award-winning products reflect the Group’s continued focus on developing packaging solutions that replace less sustainable materials, support recyclability and deliver strong performance for customers. The recognised innovations address diverse end-use needs, from food and eCommerce to transit and electronics, while contributing to a more circular economy.
re/cycle FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate
re/cycle FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate offers ultra-high-barrier protection against oxygen and moisture with strong sealability and compatibility with standard FormFillSeal (FFS) equipment, making it a recyclable alternative to traditional aluminium-based structures and an ideal solution for instant coffee, tea, dried food seasonings, bouillon cubes, muesli or cereal bars.
Ad/Vantage TrayWrap
Ad/Vantage TrayWrap is Mondi’s paper alternative to plastic tray wrapping for stackable products. It uses Ad/Vantage StretchWrap, which has an outstanding stretch and high-tensile strength. It can be used for folding boxes, liquid cartons, vacuum packs, cans and cups.
re/cycle StripPouch
This is a patented, recyclable, mono-material solution for liquid detergent and liquid soap. The special printed and removable panels concept gives this solution the highest recyclability rating of 100%, certified by cyclos-HTP and Interseroh, making it the most recyclable spouted pouch in the market.
Alpine Salt – a complete packaging solution
Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG, a long-standing partner and one of Europe’s leading salt producers, benefits from a complete packaging solution across its salt range. We supply sturdy trays for shelf placement, robust outer packaging for transport and sift proof solid board packaging to keep salt dry, protected and safe for direct food contact.
re/cycle PaperPlus Bag Advanced
This high-performance paper bag for the building and construction industry is designed to protect humidity-sensitive goods, while significantly reducing plastic content. With its thin, high-performance barrier film it uses up to 60% less plastic than comparable applications, and is confirmed recyclable according to the Cepi test method and 4evergreen evaluation protocol.
TwinBox
TwinBox is a shelf-ready corrugated packaging solution. It has been designed with smart glue points to allow fast and easy assembly, reducing waste and optimising efficiency. It is suitable for a variety of consumer goods such as snacks, confectionery or household products.
Circularity at Mondi
Our approach to circularity
We keep sustainability at the centre of our innovation and R&D efforts. Our approach to circularity encompasses several key elements, including how we design our products, how we measure our progress across our portfolio, our product impact assessments, R&D and innovation capabilities, in-house laboratories and cross-value chain collaborations with customers and suppliers.
See two of these key elements, our ‘Sustainable Design Principles’ and our ‘Path to Circularity Scorecard’, illustrated below or download our Circularity at Mondi PDF.
Sustainable Design Principles
Our Sustainable Design Principles capture the different dimensions for sustainable solutions and guide our product development and innovation teams. Our seven principles range from responsible sourcing to material efficiency and use of renewable and recycled content. During design, we also consider materials, coatings or finishings that may impede recyclability, as well as the available market infrastructure for collection, sorting and recycling.
Path to Circularity Scorecard
For a Mondi product to be deemed circular, it must be designed with a sustainable end-of-life. Our Path to Circularity Scorecard captures specific criteria and thresholds applied to our packaging and paper portfolio so we can classify Mondi products as reusable, recyclable or compostable, and measure our progress towards our commitment to make all of our packaging and paper solutions reusable, recyclable or compostable.
Product LCA
Our product life cycle assessment (LCA) tools help our customers understand the environmental impacts of product and packaging solutions.
