Developing and inspiring our next generation of leaders in our Mondi plants and mills.

NEXGEN is part of our people development framework, which supports Mondi’s commitment to fostering growth and maximising our employees’ potential through life-long learning.  Initially launched in Corrugated Packaging in 2021, it has since been further developed and rolled out globally. 

NEXGEN is a learning and development platform designed to develop and inspire our next generation of leaders in our plants and mills. We offer a programme that spotlights internal potential, creates inspiring opportunities to build a diverse future talent pipeline, fosters cross-functional exchange, and makes opportunity visible to everyone. We aim to inspire and retain our young professionals and visibly enhance an inclusive culture. In 2022, the programme was awarded with the “Mondi Diamond Award” in the “inspiring people” category, an internal prize for outstanding projects. 

In 2023, we celebrated the ‘graduation’ of our first intake of 24 fellows that started their two-year journey in 2021. The ‘class of 2021’ shared the lessons they have learned, and the message to aspiring leaders was clear: challenge yourself, be a rebel and speak up, enable connections and work as a team to inspire and motivate each other.

These were some of the reflections shared by colleagues who have experienced ‘life-changing moments’ as part of the programme:

Simultaneoulsy with the finalisation of wave 1 in October 2023, our wave 3 cohort kicked-off with 16 colleagues from Corrugated Packaging and Flexible Packaging. They are now working in their small, multi-cultural, cross-functional project teams, tackling real business challenges with mentors from across the Group. After 8 months of intensive, self-steered work, in June 2024, the group projects will be presented to CorrP and FlexP senior managers who commit to further work on the results, implement where useful in the organisation and keep in touch with the community to keep the spirit and network alive. 

But also wave 2 was active this past year, finalising their projects and presenting the results to senior managers in June 2023. They continued their learning journey by supporting each other with peer consultation for real life cases, a very valuable, self-steered learning and development method. 

NEXGEN is an integral part of our global People Development offering. Together with our other programmes, it brings to life our Grow. Create. Inspire. Together.-ambition and visibly contributes to an inclusive culture that values and celebrates the diversity we have in our operations.
