Mondi safety ambassador training

Every year all pulp and paper mills at Mondi run a period of shuts for the required maintenance and repair activities.

As these periods are involving high risk activities conducted by numerous contractors, we need to have more ‘boots on the ground’, working together with our employees and contractors, providing them support and guidance, to prevent life altering and fatal injuries.

In 2021, Mondi Safety and Health team developed and launched the ‘Safety Ambassadors Training’ program, where volunteers from outside of the safety and health field are trained to provide additional support at plants during annual shut periods. In this two-day training, each volunteer is trained on selected safety and health practice notes which are applicable to shuts and projects. They are then required to attend at least one annual shut per year to provide support to the contractors, SHE teams, and line managers at the operations.

The first round of this training was run for volunteers from Group Technical and Sustainability as well as Digital Excellence teams, and some of the ‘Safety Ambassadors’ already participated and added value to the annual shuts. Mondi Safety and Health team will continue with this initiative in our drive of providing a safe working environment and sending everybody home safely, every day.
